Unique in its category in Greece, the Thessaloniki International Book Fair (TIBF) was inaugurated in May 2004 with the aim of placing Greece on the map of International Book Fairs. It quickly established itself as a pivotal hub for cultural and commercial exchanges between Europe, the Balkans, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Today, it is one of the most significant cultural institutions in the country with international recognition.

The fair is a landmark not only for the city of Thessaloniki but also on an international level. Each year, it expands its themes, venues, programs, and guest list, responding to new trends and challenges. Beyond hosting publishing industry events, TIBF collaborates with organizations, embassies, cultural institutes, and other entities, co-organizing festivals, competitions, awards, thematic tributes, and roundtable discussions. Highlights include the New Authors Festival, the Translation Festival, and the Young Book Designers Award. It also provides a platform for networks such as the Reading Clubs Network, created and coordinated by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, to develop synergies and showcase their work during the fair.

Since 2023, TIBF has introduced a significant initiative, the Professional Program. During 2023-2024, approximately 60 renowned literary agents from key book markets visited Thessaloniki, explored the Greek publishing landscape, met its representatives, and laid the groundwork for international collaborations. This program has great potential and continues to expand, attracting numerous European and international institutions that choose TIBF for their meetings and forums.

The Thessaloniki International Book Fair is organized by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in collaboration with Greek publishers, TIF–HELEXPO, the Region of Central Macedonia, and the Municipality of Thessaloniki, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. It is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Program of Central Macedonia 2021-2027. TIBF is a member of the International Book Fairs Forum and the ALDUS UP European Book Fairs Network.
